What is Liferay?

Liferay is a comprehensive platform that provides a suite of tools and technologies to help organizations create and manage digital experiences across different channels, including web, mobile, and social. Gartner Inc. labelled it ‘best challenger‘ and ‘leader‘ in the magic quadrant for Digital Experience Platforms several years in a row.

It comes in two flavours that are both built on open source portal technology and offer functionality to meet the needs of digital-first organisations:

1.  Liferay DXP (Digital Experience Platform)
   formerly known as ‘Enterprise Edition‘, full blown version targeted at large, multinational corporations that comes packaged with a variety of vendor subscription services that focus on governance, compliance, indemnification and legal assurance.
2. Liferay Portal
   formerly known as ‘Community Edition‘; version containing most of the bells and whistles that Liferay DXP has to offer, requires no vendor subscriptions and offers a great value for money to NGO’s and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).
